As I am very excited after this unusually long restoration for a Golden Scan, and the difficulties I described in my previous blog post, I wanted to share with you guys some moments of the first test, with the lamp on!

I conduct multiple tests when not on the base, also to allow the painted parts near the lamp to warm up and ventilate any excessive paint smell.

The only part still needed to be replaced, and I ordered, thankfully, I found it available here in Prague, is the lamp starter. I need to replace the old one because it is buzzing slightly. Such parts are commonly too worn out.

The new 4580Z Papst fans arrived the previous week as well. Another advantage of being in the centre of Europe is the fast shipping to almost everything! These fans are expensive, but a necessary original peripheral, as they are very silent and with metal fan blades/rotor, (since the hot air is sucked by the fans, they must have metal blades. Forced air cooling can be provided by a plastic fan as well). The scanner had Sunon fans installed, with plastic blades/rotor. I didn't even bother to reinstall, or even test those.

With the HPEs, I have the first rose gobo I created, while the Stage Scans have the original pattern. I like both the hand-drawn and HD rose designs; they create awesome projections.

This pair will have a different gobo and colour setup, and I am looking forward to putting all the combinations to the test.

The yellow colour has been installed to the main color wheel, with the order most Clay Paky fixtures of that era had, while the 4-colour filter has been removed. The two new filter possitions on the secondary wheel will accommodate a Lavender Accent and a Gaslight Green filter, hoping to create even more cool shades, with the main colors, as well as the extra blue light filter which the Golden Scan HPE has on the effects wheel (Light frost / heavy frost / 5-F prism and Blue light colour.

For the Gobos, I decided to keep most of them Clay Paky originals, while adding the HD photographic rose, and a very nice Leafs gobo breakup I found on Goboland.

The triangle breakup is a pattern I've seen only on the Golden Spots, and I love it. I have recreated it for my stage lights in the past, replacing another classic gobo, the spokes, and now I am going to make two Size D for the Golden Scan HPEs as well. The triangle and cone is something that I cannot part with; it is so classic, and also, the three cones are so cool for aerials as well. The full star was an idea of the last moment, as it is another very classic pattern, which would make nice effects with the double colors and prisms. Since the Stage Scans have the outlined star, I chose the full star for the HPEs. In future upgrades, I would like some more modern breakups, like those can be found on the latest Clay Paky and Robe fixtures.

Closing this blog post, I want to send my special regards and thanks to a fellow collector and now long-time friend from Germany, Simon, who helped me replace the missing and damaged filters of this scanner! I just love the fact that there are many of us, and help each other with information, knowledge and spare parts, keeping these lights alive and enjoying them!

And a small spoiler: My next work, considering this website, is a new dedicated page to everything available material regarding our favourite fixtures. Old brochures, manuals, schematics, and gobo files will have a special corner on this website for you to access. I have some stuff that collected since the start of the 'internet' era in Greece, so maybe there are many things that cannot be found any more and could be useful for you!

So, enjoy your holidays/summer events, and I will be in touch!
