I've started working with Onyx (it still was M-PC then) on summer of 2017 and I changed the perspective of seeing the light control of my lighting collection. Before that time, I have lost interesting of using my lights so often, as I was always busy with restoration projects and I was using mostly my old scanners which are not DMX controlled. The previous software I used had many issues, as there was no update for ages and that time, I was searching for a new option for controlling my lights.

I didn't want to go steps back with buying something with which I would have less functions and abilities, but my budget also wouldn't be enough for something so advanced. Gladly I remembered that Martin had M-PC which offered for free. In the past I've tried it, but I've got lost and dissapointed from its "complication". But I was wrong, the software wasn't complicated at all, I was the one who didn't dedicated enough time to get its mentality.

Apart from the fact that Onyx gave a new breath to my knowledge about lighting control, I've seen the true capabilities of my lights. Finally, I am able to get the 100% from them. So my favorite activity lately, when I do not have any restore to do, is to program on timecode to six of my 'most properly installed' lights on my favorite songs! By saying properly installed I mean that my room is not the best place to make something harmonic. But at least six fixtures have at least decent positions to make something with integrity and harmony. Lately, my friends also suggesting songs, challenge me to 'light them up'. I hope you have fun watching them and see that the scanners can still have important role on a show / installation!

The Phantom Of The Opera 🌹 by Nightwish | Attic lighting with Stage Light 300 & MiniScan HPE

A playful timecode created with Obsidian Control Systems Onyx software, a few years ago, recorded this month, on this dynamic and one of my favourite versions of that legendary song! My apologies for the shaky videos, I guess I was in a "concert mood", plus nowadays my attic is not suitable for static position videos anymore, as it has been too overcrowded! I do enjoy experimenting with timecodes a lot in the last few years, especially after the Covid period started, testing not only the software's abilities and my imagination during programming but the response of such old light fixtures. I have to say that I have managed for now to do everything I have imagined being possible with these models, at a 99%. Onyx makes it so easy to create complicated effects, of speed or synchronization with a part of a song. I refer to this "negative" 1% on the fact that the strobe on these Clay Paky models (from Golden Scan 3 to the newest Stage Scan I own), is not activated instantly when the command is given, but it requires some milliseconds, which have to be predicted during a timecode cue activation. Other than that, these old favourite models can respond fantastically in dynamic shows with accuracy in today's modern light control applications. This video is dedicated to friends and other collectors out there, who are taking care of these historic masterpieces from the entertainment lighting industry! #claypaky #miniscanHPE #stagelight300 #obsidiancontrolsystems #onyx #stagelighting
